Our Story

John Schweitzer rang in the new year right when he founded Alta-Pak Midwest, Inc. on January 1, 1982. With hard work, dedication, and some elbow grease, John and plant manager Keith Snapp established our commitments to quality packaging materials and top-notch customer service early on.

Alta-Pak manufactures and distributes the Alta-“W,” a flowable loose fill more commonly referred to as packing peanuts, as well as a wide variety of other wholesale packing materials. We supply everything from the outside to the inside of a package — from stock and misprinted shipping boxes to tape and strapping materials to bubble wrap, paper products, and much more.

We believe we succeed only when you do too and are laser focused on exceeding our customers’ expectations. We make every customer a priority — no matter how large or small — providing friendly service and fair pricing you can look forward to each and every time. Our privately owned fleet of trucks also ensures on-time delivery, whether you’re within the greater Kansas City metropolitan area or the larger Midwest region.

Alta-Pak has proudly been woman-owned since 2006 when John’s daughter Cyndi Griffith purchased the business. The family legacy continues with her, along with our customer-centric foundational values. Under her leadership, we remain grounded in our beginnings while looking ahead to meet new and evolving customer needs.

We guarantee next-day delivery of all in-stock items and can sometimes fulfill same-day delivery. You can also pick up your order at our warehouse at 3401 North Jackson Avenue, Kansas City, MO 64117, between 7 a.m. and 4 p.m., Monday through Friday.

If you choose to have your order shipped, please note that standard shipping times apply. 

There’s no such thing as an order too small at Alta-Pak. When you shop with us, you don’t have to meet a minimum order requirement, making it easy to get only the items you really need.

We can ship your order anywhere in the United States! The cost to ship items largely depends on how far they’ll be traveling, so contact our team for an exact quote.

We also value getting to see our customers’ faces, whether that’s at your door or ours. Walk-ins are always welcome at our warehouse in Kansas City, or if you’re in the larger Midwest region, we’ll deliver your packaging materials for a nominal fee.

If you’re interested in placing a larger order, you can take advantage of our special bulk pricing. Pricing varies depending on the quantity and type of wholesale packing materials, so you’ll want to contact our team for an exact quote.

With so many options out there, it can sometimes be difficult to know what packaging materials will work best for your shipping needs. The good news is that we have the knowledge, skills, and experience to make expert recommendations. From shipping box sizes to inside-the-box supplies, we can suggest the products that will keep your items safe and secure during transport.

Shipping box dimensions are determined by measuring inside length, width, and height. Length refers to the longest side of the box with a flap, while width is the shortest side with a flap. Height is the only measurement that doesn’t feature a flap and is calculated by measuring the shipping box from top to bottom. Note: +/- 1/8” is considered an acceptable manufacturing variance.

Corrugated Box Measurement

Yes, our packaging materials can be customized to meet your size and brand specifications. Maybe you need shipping boxes with unique dimensions, or you’d like your logo printed on the side. Whatever the case, our design team will work to transform your packaging vision into reality.

You’ll pay a one-time fee for a print plate and cutting die, which we offer at no-markup cost. We can then use these tools again and again on subsequent orders to achieve a consistent look and feel on your packaging materials.
